A Guide To Vinyl Doors

Posted on: 24 July 2019

When most people imagine doors, they think wood. This is understandable since most doors in residential construction are made out of some type of wood—either a solid wood or a composite product. On top of that, many of the non-wood door materials are made with fake wood styles, colors, and imprints. Obviously, wood is a very popular product because it looks great on pretty much any home style. When it comes to substitutes for wood, you should look no further than vinyl. This post explains why vinyl is so popular for the construction of both interior and exterior doors.

The Maintenance Is Famously Easy and Cheap

Right off the bat, when it comes to using vinyl, the best argument is that it so low maintenance. Homeowners love products that are easy to take care, and vinyl ticks all the boxes. You don't need to invest in any expensive or harsh chemicals to clean vinyl. You never need to paint or stain vinyl. This is a huge deal when you think about the long-term costs and time it takes to refinish wood. Basically, all you really need to do to keep up your vinyl doors is dust them every once in a while to get rid of dust build up.

The Style Is Hard to Beat, Too

While very few people would disagree that vinyl is easy to take care of, some people want to avoid it because they don't think of vinyl as a particularly stylish product. But, this is probably due to the fact that these people don't really know what modern vinyl can look like. Most vinyl door products on the market have very authentic styles. Those with wood finishes are very convincing—complete with multi-colored prints, textures, and matter finishes that can look very much like real wood. Most homeowners are happy to have a product that is going to require just a fraction of the maintenance, even if there is a slight difference between vinyl and real wood.

Over time, vinyl is going to be cheaper in every way. When you factor in that most modern vinyl doors are built with extra insulation, you can rest assured that it is a very eco-friendly choice that has great insulation ratings for an affordable price. Vinyl might not be the first thing that you think of when you are shopping for replacement doors for your home, but perhaps it should be.
